Paper Cut is Owen's first published book, giving a unique perspective into contemporary paper illustration and featuring contributions from 30 of the top papercraft illustrators across the world. Owen, who curated and wrote the entire book, explores why these artists love papercraft, how they use it and what makes their work unique through interviews, inspirations and processes.
An exhibition accompanied the release of the book, taking place at The Proud Archivist in London throughout the summer of 2014. It featured a selection of paper-crafted works from Owen and the artists featured in the book, including Rob Ryan, Yulia Brodskaya, Jeff Nishinaka, Andersen M Studio, Chrissie Macdonald, and Kyle Bean.
In a world that’s become saturated with faultless digital design, the importance of human interaction and its inherent imperfections has become hugely important. We want to feel a connection with the imagery we re looking at, and even if it’s just a photograph of the finished illustration, knowing that it exists as a physical artwork is hugely satisfying.
