'The Sublime Spectrum' is an on-going personal artwork series by Owen Gildersleeve. The artworks are all one-of-a-kind, handcrafted using the large array of coloured paper stocks that he has amassed in the central Brighton studio over his fifteen years as a full-time paper artist.
Owen meticulously arranges the paper into sweeping gradients of tones. He then hand-cuts into the sheets, using concentric forms to create the hypnotic visual effects of the artworks. The cutouts are then mounted onto board, to give a nice subtle depth and shadow between the layers, and then pieced together and framed. These artworks have attracted international interest, with buyers across the world, and have been exhibited in Berlin, Brighton and London.
Owen donated two of his latest 'The Sublime Spectrum' artworks to the 'Be Nice' charity show which ran from 7th - 11th May 2025 at Noho Studios in London, exhibiting alongside an incredible array of artists including Olly Fathers, Liza Giles, Jonathan Lawes, Melanie Berman, Nick Grindrod, Anthony Burrill, Carsten Beck and many more. Both artworks sold during the show, with all proceeds donated to the fantastic charities Bow Foodbank and The New Normal Charity.
